What resolution are you using? Are you playing the game on your laptop/notebook? What speed slider position are you using?

If I tried to have that type of battle setup, I'm sure KA would be crashing more often than not.

What are you using to capture the video and then format it to upload to YouTube? What video format are you using?

Recently, I downloaded and tried BB FlashBack Express Free Edition (Company website). It's not bad. One of the nice things it can do is save video captures to flash video format (.flv). The flash video format is small when compared to the nearly useless 100 MB+ video codec formats the program allows you to save to as well.

I play KA on laptop/notebook ACER TravelMtae 5742G (intel core i5-480M - 2.66 GHz, 4Gb Ram, GT 540M - don´t buy it ! It has bad cooling system for CPU and GPU, - overheating, when you play hard games...).

I use 1366x768 resolution, when i play on notebook, sometimes i connect 19 external monitor and i play in 1280x1024 resolution (much better).

The slider is on max position (max speed, i like quick firing, battles are more adrenalin :) ).

I have about 13 instalation of KA, stock, with romulan dawn, NGA (first old version), with patch 1.03 (first version), with patch 1.03 ( newest version which i could find on internet), newest NGA (i think, this version is from you, its perfect stable) and some version of A , which i used for testink scripts and change - modify ships shp. files to do KA more playeble. Sometimes KA crash, sometime don´t. I think, if i want samotethink more on it, KA protest and show me magic box and foll to windows.

I use Windows 7 home edition, 64 bit.

I used for recording video of KA fraps, there is downlink for it. It makes "good" video, but the video file is too much big. 5 minutes file have about 4 GB. You can change the resolution of recording file and make longer video.

Right. I vaguely remember our conversation about it. Still, I wanted to know what you're using to be able to have such fast moving and multi-ship battles. I have more than enough of a good computer system to play KA, but I know/believe trying to play like you play the game would probably end up crashing the game a lot.

When you play at those resolutions, and you're facing the direction of a known cloaked ship, do you notice whether or not your framerates start getting slower, either by noticing a slight slow stutter or seeing the fps lower via Fraps?

I ask because I recently tested different resolutions with my Nvidia GTX 460 video card and my old Nvidia 6800 GT card. Using any resolution above 1024 x 768 while facing a known cloaked ship causes framerate drops, but there's no framerate drop while using 1024 x 768. At 1280 x 1024, the framerate drops aren't nearly as bad as they are at higher resolutions, i.e single digits. Also, there's a greater framerate drop when in Chase View where you can see your ship than when in normal view where you can't see your ship. I was hoping the cloaked ship/framerate problem might be restricted to 16:9 resolution ratios, but it's present with 4:3 resolutions too.

Way too much speed for me and potential for colliding.

The only NGA stuff I have would possibly be in that KA 1.03 file.

I'm still using and dual-booting between Win XP Pro x32 and x64. I'm not terribly interested in upgrading anytime soon. The nice thing about having the dual-boot OS setup is having the ability to boot to one or the other OS when ever I have a registry corruption issue, which I've had more than once. It makes the recover process a lot easier than following these instructions word for word:

How to recover from a corrupted registry that prevents Windows XP from starting

I tried that link and it didn't work for me.

Try that BB FlashBack Express Free Edition program. That 1:57 min/sec ST Excalibur revisement I made was all of 31.6 MB. I'm not saying it's the greatest program, but out of about half a dozen freebie programs I downloaded and tried from download.com, it was the best for a free program.

Format-wise, the best BB FlashBack format to save your files to is .flv. BB FlashBack does offer you the option to save to .avi and some other "old, ancient, why bother" video formats, but the resulting files sizes are ridiculously huge, which I gather is due to no compression. From what you're saying about Fraps, I gather you're experiencing the same problem. From what I've read from the Fraps FAQ, your big file sizes are absolutely a result of no compression.

http://www.fraps.com/faq.php

[INDENT]Why is the AVI movie generated by Fraps so big? How can I reduce the size?

The filesize is big because there isnt enough time to encode the movie while the game is running. The movie frames are slightly compressed, but still require a large amount of disk space due to the high resolutions. After you have finished capturing you can convert the clips into a compressed format using a video editing program. Probably the easiest one to use is Windows Movie Maker which is included free as part of Windows Live Essentials. (Yeah, right. ]

If you want to convert your existing .avi file, you might try Format Factory:

http://www.formatoz.com/

I've played around with it a bit and haven't been terribly impressed, but then I might not be doing something right in terms of choosing the correct options for the best encoding experience. Sometimes, I just jump into a program rather than read all the documentation, and that might be my problem with Format Factory. So, Format Factory might be better than what I've experienced, which has been some out of synch video and music timing with that ST Excalibur redux video. Then again, it might not be a very polished free program.

DBF68 - Right. I vaguely remember our conversation about it. Still, I wanted to know what you're using to be able to have such fast moving and multi-ship battles. I have more than enough of a good computer system to play KA, but I know/believe trying to play like you play the game would probably end up crashing the game a lot.

I don´t know what say :) . I just install KA, moving speed slider to max and playing. Every graphic details are on max. One finding - i discover, that KA demand on CPU. If i have dualcore, 2,66 GHz, i think, is more load then GPU. If i have quadcore, game will be faster and more playeable. I play in 1280x1024 resolution and FPS is about 56 to 24, if is there many big ships and fighting with themself.

Big battles - need very fast CPU, GPU is on second line, i think.

To crash - Try to install win 7 on any old computer, or tell someone, who have win 7 ( necessary 64 bit, i think It doesn't matter), install KA a try watch, what happen. I think, win 7 is the best system to stable KA. Stock KA NEVER crash to Win. Only crash mod version of KA. If i compare, how i played KA on computer with Win XP (32bit) and play on Win 7, the win 7 is winner. Try it.

DBF68 - When you play at those resolutions, and you're facing the direction of a known cloaked ship, do you notice whether or not your framerates start getting slower, either by noticing a slight slow stutter or seeing the fps lower via Fraps?

FPS is still on the same number... I don´t notice, that some cloaked big ship fly around me, that KA slow down. ( i will look at it ;) ).

DBF68 - I ask because I recently tested different resolutions with my Nvidia GTX 460 video card and my old Nvidia 6800 GT card. Using any resolution above 1024 x 768 while facing a known cloaked ship causes framerate drops, but there's no framerate drop while using 1024 x 768. Interesting knowledge, i will look at it. ( Is not problem of win XP and combination of GTX 460 ? it´s strange, i had Nvidia 6800 Ultra along time ago with combination of AMD Athlon 3800 (2,4 GHz) and didn´t remember of this problem.)

DBF68 - Way too much speed for me and potential for colliding. Max slider of speed.

You must foresee, what will enemy do :)

DBF68 - The only NGA stuff I have would possibly be in that KA 1.03 file. - installation of KA.

I test some mod, for example Romulan Dawn, and i will do KA with RD mod. Then i try another mod and trying, if is passible to compiled with KA + RD. My experiences are, too much mods together, to much crashes...

DBF68 - I'm still using and dual-booting between Win XP Pro x32 and x64. I'm not terribly interested in upgrading anytime soon. Dual system, clever move. I need to install virtual 32 bit system on my 64 win 7, because some old games don´t like 64 bit  . I have about 5th computer (laptot) and i don´t upgrade too. I like new games, they have fantastic graphic, but playing it is boring. Yesterday, i download old Alien vs Predator from 2000, is going under Win 7 64 bit, and its still funny!!! I don´t look at graphic, i look idea+ fun+ CHALENGE!. Todays game hasn´t chalange. ( i like COD modern warfare for story and how is it make, the same Crysis, but Crysis is too much hardcore for my laptot). By the way, a few moment, i dawnload System Shock 2, is going under win 7 too and its great too :) .

DBF-68 - I tried that link and it didn't work for me.

If someone want, i can put my KA mods to internet for downloading. Such as Romulan Dawn, NGA (old and new version), Another mods like 1,03 patch (old and new), some ships, missions etc...
Or i make KA portable :o ( i have still on my flashdisk, it´s stock install of KA, but is limited to play only in 640x480)
